Borgo Ripostena

Ripostena began with my father Alberto and a cold November in 1989.— The Giorgi family

In those days, Alberto came across a small abandoned hamlet nestled in the Tuscan hills. He immediately saw its potential: ancient stones, long silences and a view stretching out towards Chianti.

He was looking for a country retreat for the family — somewhere to switch off, spend the holidays and be together — when he arrived at this little hilltop hamlet, abandoned at the time and wrapped in a thin veil of mist, with the hills rising through it like islands.

I, Martina, was ten years old, and my first visit was almost traumatic: I stood motionless on a stone, surrounded by mud and ruins, unable to see what he could see. But my father had already made up his mind. In that sleeping place, he had sensed something that could not be explained — and there was no turning back.

And so began a restoration that would last six years, summer and winter, without pause. It was a determined and passionate undertaking, using authentic materials patiently recovered and given new life — stones, beams, old washbasins — together with the skilled hands of local craftsmen. My mother, pragmatic and forward-thinking, scolded him more than once at first. Then, as always, she embraced the project with all her determination.

He passed that love for Ripostena on to me. After those six years of restoration, we decided to open the doors of the hamlet — to share this place of peace and renewal with people who, like us, needed somewhere to truly slow down. Over the years, we have formed deep bonds with people and families whom we have watched grow, expand and return year after year. Today, I am the one who looks after this place — and all their stories with it. Ripostena is a family story. And it continues.
